The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Employee Rewards
Introduction
Employee rewards are a great way to show appreciation and motivate employees to do their best work. However, not all employee rewards are created equal. In this article, we will explore the good, the bad and the ugly of employee rewards and how to make sure they are effective.
The Good
When it comes to employee rewards, the good ones are those that are tailored to the individual employee. For example, offering a bonus to an employee who is struggling with a project is a great way to show your appreciation and motivate them to continue pushing forward. Additionally, providing a personalized gift that fits the employee’s interests is another great way to reward an employee. It shows that you are paying attention and that you care about the individual.
The Bad
On the other hand, there are some rewards that can backfire. For example, offering a generic gift card is often seen as a cheap reward and does not show that you are putting in any effort to recognize the individual. Additionally, giving a reward for completing a task that should already be part of a job description can be seen as a demotivating factor.
The Ugly
The ugly rewards are those that are perceived to be unfair. For example, rewarding one employee for doing the same job that other employees are doing can lead to resentment and can cause a rift in the team. Additionally, rewards that are not tied to performance can be seen as arbitrary and can lead to employees feeling like they are not valued.
Conclusion
Employee rewards are a great way to show appreciation and motivate employees. However, it is important to make sure that the rewards are tailored to the individual, are tied to performance and are seen as fair by all employees. By taking these considerations into account, you can make sure that your employee rewards are effective and have a positive impact on your team.
